Every organization must respond to today’s rapidly changing marketplace. If we are to stay competitive, or even in the game, there is frequently a need for an almost instantaneous response to new conditions. Sometimes these conditions offer us an incredible opportunity to achieve market dominance; in other situations, we are fighting off impending disaster. In every organization, there are times when we feel like we are trying to turn a battleship around in a bathtub.

Some of the issues we look at when assisting or consulting during change projects are:

• the resistance level of the individuals where the change is desired, and how to work through that resistance and build commitment to the change

• the commitment level of the managers who are expected to implement the change, and how to increase their skill level when dealing with the inevitable disruption which occurs with major change

• the degree to which the change is consistent with the culture of an organization

• determining if there are too many change projects "on the organization’s plate". Successful organizations cull out many of the proposals which are simply "good ideas" so that only business imperatives remain.
